4900-lumen LED landing lights — taxi lights — wig-wag recognition lights

There’s really no longer any meaningful distinction between taxi and landing light bulbs (Bertorelli, 2019).

advantage

ADVANTAGES OF SQUADRON PRO LED LIGHT PODS:

  • 9° narrow-beam spot light optics for in-flight operation
  • 44° wide-angle beam spread for ground operation
  • 4900 lumen output using top-tier Cree LED chips
  • 40 watts with over-voltage circuit protection

  • 49,930-hr av. service life
  • waterproof and rain proof
  • replaceable lenses and optics
  • 5000K daylight colour temperature

ADVANTAGES OF PERIHELION WIG-WAG FLASHER:

  • small 25 x 32 x 15mm at 42.5g body size and weight
  • 80 flashes/minute meets FAA timing specification
  • 10 to 18 volts DC, supports 2 lamps up to 250W
  • surge suppressors maintain operational limits

benefit

THESE OBNOXIOUSLY BRIGHT LIGHTS:

  • let everyone know Maple is in the pattern
  • provide plenty of light for taxiing and landing
  • can be left on without regard to power consumption
  • support optional lenses with different beam patterns

  • will outlast all of us
  • can be flown in the rain
  • are more efficient than most LEDs
  • illuminated objects are easier to detect

THE PERIHELION DESIGN WIG-WAG FLASHER:

  • enables: L-R flashing, L and R steady, L or R steady
  • improves safety during limited visibility ops
  • promotes safety in the traffic pattern
  • reduces chance of bird strikes

There’s value in the performance of seeing better for landing and taxiing and improved conspicuity by turning the light on and leaving it on. There’s every indication that LEDs are essentially lifetime bulbs and will always be available when you need them some dark and stormy night. LED lamps with a flashing wig-wag, always-on function further enhance daytime conspicuity (Bertorelli, 2019).

My Image

Original GlaStar cowls use piano wires and hinges to hold cowls together.

advantage

ADVANTAGES OF SPORTSMAN COWLS:

  • stronger, simpler method of attachment
  • greater space enables enclosed air filter
  • sleek, updated design

benefit

COMPARED TO GLASTAR COWLS:

  • when removing and re-attaching Maple's Sportsman cowls, these avoid having to pull greasy piano wires out, the hassle of pushing them back in, and the risk of their breaking inside the cowl
  • air filter stays cleaner, longer, saving time and filter efficiency
  • empowers others to mistake Maple as being a Sportsman

ACK 406MHz E-04 ELT

image

…the E-04 is a solid value (Anglisano, 2010).

advantage

ADVANTAGES OF ACK 406 MHz E-04 ELT:

  • GPS-ready for Garmin 18x GPS WAAS Receiver
  • incorporates both 406MHz and 121.5 MHz frequencies
  • convenient beacon maintenance and registration process
  • ELT antenna mounted inside GlaStar's composite fuselage

Computertized records

"In all my 50 years working as an airplane mechanic I've never seen a set of logbooks as fine as these."

Don Pridham, A&P/IA

advantage

  • Simple, organized, and legible maintenance records
  • Instant retrieval the aircraft's logbooks
  • Data security through multiple digital and paper backups of data
  • Hardcopy records printout for access anywhere
  • Peace of mind from knowing that valuable data is secure

for a copy of the logbooks please contact me

benefit

This aircraft reaps the benefit of simplified, organized, and centralized data relevant to the aircraft’s maintenance history. The digital record-keeping system provides instant retrieval of maintenance—with colour photographs where available—of work performed and condition inspection sign-offs for the aircraft.

The GlaStar’s record-keeping file resides on a computer hard drive with backups secured offsite. A hardcopy version of the system’s records is maintained in tabbed sections in a three-ring binder, with signatures written in ink added to each entry for maintenance and annual condition inspections as required by FAR §43.9. Additionally, the handwritten entries and attachments prepared by Maple’s builder and entered into the original ASA-brand logbooks (which are securely stored) dating from 2017 have been scanned and saved in PDF format to preserve evidence of original signatures and content. The scanned pages were then added to the GlaStar’s digital record-keeping system to complete the computerization of the aircraft’s records.

Tabbed sections of the hardcopy version contained in the three-ring binder are:

  • Airframe Logbook
  • Engine Logbook
  • Propeller Logbook
  • Weight and Balance
