ADSB - out

PROJECT: ADS-B OUT INSTALLATION

Ever since the FAA's ADS-B Out mandate was announced in 2010, I imagined having to lay out thousands to achieve compliance in my next aircraft. Sure enough, when I found Maple in 2018, she lacked ADS-B Out.

I need not have worried. Maple's Dynon SkyView avionics was ADS-B Out ready for just $575, thanks to a simple drop-in replacement using SV-GPS-2020 GPS Receiver/Antenna for the existing SVGPS-250 receiver. There was no need to run any additional wires, coax, or install any new boxes in the aircraft. Installation was nothing more than:

* removing the SVGPS-250 antenna — but not its wiring
* installing and splicing the SV-GPS-2020 GPS Receiver/Antenna into the old antenna's wiring
* selecting the SV-GPS-2020 in SkyView's settings
* flight testing to validate the installation via the Surveillance and Broadcast Services Program ADS-B Performance Monitor

An added future benefit is that situational awareness will be increased with traffic and subscription-free weather by installing Dynon’s ADS-B In
SV-ADSB-472 Dual Band Traffic and Weather Receiver ($795).
